Congratulations to our Blackstone teams that have made the finals series this season. We have four teams (O40’s, Senior Womens, Senior Mens Div 5 and U12’s) from eight that are contesting the finals series this year and two teams only bowing out of the finals race in the last two rounds (Senior Mens Div1 and U10’s).
Congratulations to our two Blackstone teams that have taken out the premierships after the regular season. Our Senior Womens team and our U12 team both finished top of the table in their respective competitions and were also undefeated throughout the season. A fantastic effort and both squads are well positioned moving into the finals series.
We travelled to Leyshon Park for our last regular match of the season to take on El Salvador. It had been raining in the morning and the team were hoping that we would still get to play. With the ref calling us onto the field, the Blackstone were excited that they were able to play in the rain! We only had to wait until 3’ for our first shot on goal from Jayden but the keeper made a great save. At 5’ Jonas had an shot but it went wide of the goal. Jeremiah chimed in at the 9’mark but the keeper again made a great save. Blackstone won the ball back quickly and Lachlan was next with a shot followed by Jeremiah again but both went wide. At the 15’mark, Blackstone moved the ball wide up the left with Lachlan beating players with the ball at his feet. He played a lovely cross into the six yard box and Jonas tapped the ball into the back of the net for Blackstone to go 1-0 up. Blackstone continued to press for the balance of the first half with very little El Salvador possession in our half of the field. We went to the half time break 1-0 and Buster (our keeper) not touching the ball once.
A few changes in the second half in the structure of the team with the forwards going into goal and centre back positions and our centre backs and keeper moving onto the field. The game really opened up with Buster, Cody F, Cody D and Blair enjoying the freedom to run forward and attack with possession. It didn’t take too long for the combinations to work and with a run up the middle by Cody D and a pass onto Buster in behind the defence, Buster took a shot on goal but again the keeper prevented the goal. Two minutes later, Cody D and Buster combined again through the centre and out to the right edge and Buster picker up his first goal for the season with Blackstone moving to 2-0. El Salvador countered and pressed deep into our defensive third forcing Lachlan to come out from the line to make a wonderful save one-on-one with the striker. Fantastic effort given this was his first time as keeper. The team played very well with the new positions and you could see the joy on their faces as they moved the ball around the park. At the 40’mark, receiving a pass from Jayden, Cody D beat the last line of defence and picked up his first goal of the season moving Blackstone to 3-0. Right on fulltime, El Salvador handballed in the box and the ref awarded the penalty from the spot. Cody F stepped up to take the shot hoping to score his first goal of the season. He moved in for the strike and struck the ball powerfully but straight at the keeper who made the save. Fantastic effort from the team to remain undefeated for the season, winning every match but playing very attractive football.

On Saturday 9th August our ladies travelled to Sunnybank. After already winning the Premiership with 3 fixtures remaining, they were focused on their next challenge of finishing the season undefeated.
In a slow start to the game on a wide field we saw some good passages of play throughout the backline and midfield. The forwards were just as focused as usual with many shots but with the Sunnybank sweeper and their goalkeeper pulling off any attempts that we had. We were into the 25th minute when we saw a long range shot from Dana Haywood rebound off their keeper and fullback to finish off into the net giving us our first goal. We went to the half time with just a one nil advantage.
After half time kick off we saw Nikki Hubbard take a run at their goals and narrowly missed their goals which could off been a 6 second goal. Just a few minutes later in the 48th minute Nikki again ran down the line to the edge of the 18 yard box and crossed the ball to the edge of the box where Tracey McDowall was waiting to pass the ball to Amy to finish and give us our 2nd goal. Coming into the 60th minute Amy Ingram ran down the left off the field and cut the ball back to Dana about 25 yards out, who once again had a long range shot and went straight through the keepers hands giving us a 3rd goal. We saw a see saw of play on the field with a few attempts to get through our defence but Alicia Cole and Sheena put a stop to that and kept feeding the ball to the wings to run up the line to feed the forwards. In the 73rd minute we found Amy Ingram on the edge of their box to kick the ball on a half volley into the right hand side of the goal giving us our 4th goal. Just 2 minutes later we found our forwards really hungry for goals and Nikki once again on the right hand side of the field crossed the ball across the goal mouth, where Amy was waiting to nicely place the ball into the net taking us to 5 nil. With Rachel Nevin having a run up in the forwards we found her having a run down the left hand side of the field beating two of their fullbacks. Rachel managed to pass the ball back to Dana who crossed the ball over the top of their back line where Nikki nicely placed the ball into the net. Top efforts from our defence of Coral Nevin, Brie Thornton, Sheena and Alicia in providing a solid defence for our keeper Jess Burrows as strong as ever in the goals and giving the team another clean sheet. Jess Nicholls in her comeback games proved she can play more than one position playing in the midfield. Despite numerous attempts and shots from Sky Matthews she was unlucky not to have scored.

Next Saturday 16th August we find the ladies home at 3pm for their last home game of the season against Marsden which should be a hard game. We invite all Blackstone supporters to come and watch this game.
We welcomed River Baptist to our home ground on Saturday in another 1st v 2nd top of the table clash. Blackstone was keen to keep their unbeaten run going and was ready right from the kick off. Rivers Baptist made early inroads but the attacking run was diffused with nice passing out from the back between Cody D and Caillan. At the 9’mark, we pushed into our attacking third and Jeremiah had the first shot on goal but it was saved by the keeper. Jeremiah had another opportunity at 14’ but again the keeper made a very good save. The next few minutes we pressed hard with Jayden, Jonas, Lachlan and Dan all having shots on goal but no goals coming from them. To round out the first half, Blackstone again pushed forward and a nice piece of passing through the centre midfield by Dan to Jeremiah on the left wing. Jeremiah beat the defender and passed back to Jonas in the centre of the field who unselfishly passed back to Jeremiah for another shot on goal but saved by the Rivers Baptist keeper again. While we dominated possession, Rivers Baptist made a few attacking runs with one resulting in their striker outpacing our centre backs and going one on one with our keeper. Buster was up for the challenge and charged out, blocking the shot from the striker. Brilliant save by Buster and he has been fearless in goal this season. The teams went to the halftime break nil all.
The second half was very much the same as the first half. Blackstone dominated possession and had shots on goal but couldn’t convert. Rivers Baptist best opportunity came midway through the second half with a scramble at the top of the 18 yard box but it was eventually cleared by Blair. About 5’before fulltime, Blackstone again attacked up the left flank. Theo put a lovely pass through to Jeremiah who crossed the ball back to Dan at the top of the box. Quickly sizing up the situation, Dan put a short through ball outside the last defender and Jayden finished of the well-constructed play by scoring in the bottom right corner away from the diving Rivers Baptist keeper. Blackstone closed out the remainder of the match and the game finished at 1-0.
Special mention to Joshua who despite being sick and unable to play, came down to the ground to support the team.

We travelled across the city to take on North Lakes in a 1st v 2nd top of the table clash. It was a cracker of a day and all of the kids were jumping out of their skins, keen to take to the field. Blackstone started strongly and it didn’t take too long before we made inroads into their defensive line. At the 3’mark, Dan received the ball out wide on the right wing and put across a great cross in front of goal but it beat all of the defenders and our forwards. We had a similar opportunity at the 8’mark and this time it was Jonas that had received the ball our wide, drew in the centre backs and put in a lovely cross to Lachlan who calmly slotted home our first goal of the match. Six minutes later, Jonas and Lachlan teamed up again to bring up our second goal. Jonas received the ball from our midfield and put Lachlan through in behind the defensive line and beat the keeper on his near post. North Lakes then made a great attacking run into our 18 yard box and unfortunately our defenders brought down the player and the ref awarded a free kick from the spot. Buster (our keeper) made himself as big as possible and the striker pushed the shot wide of the goal. At the 23’mark, we built up nicely with Cody playing the ball out from the back to Jeremiah, Jeremiah switched the play to Lachlan on the right wing who layed off to Jonas to take a shot on goal but a great save from the North Lakes keeper denied our third goal. We went to the break 2-0 in the lead.
Our second half started strongly with great touch and passing by Jonas and Dan. After a shot was saved and cleared, the ball went out to Connor at right midfield who took a touch and then fired back a shot on goal which was saved by the keeper. We gained possession again and worked the ball back into an attacking position. Jonas again showed his great touch with the ball at his feet and put on a lovely pass to Lachlan who took another shot on goal that was saved by their keeper. At the 40’mark, Conner took possession of the ball in the midfield and passed off to Lachlan with a nice run then passed off to Jonas. Jonas had the vision to see that Jeremiah was unmarked and put a ball through to him that he slotted past the keeper to bring up our third goal. Very quickly after the restart of play, we again had the ball and Dan moved the ball via Jeremiah to Lachlan who had another shot on goal. Our last goal started with Caillan taking a free kick for an offside infringement by North Lakes just short of the halfway line. Caillan played the ball through to Dan in the midfield who picked out Jonas. Jonas beat the defenders and the keeper and scored in the 49’. Blackstone continued to press for the remained of the match. I thought the Gorrie brothers had an outstanding match today and Jonas showed fantastic team play by giving the final pass on three of our goals and scoring one himself. Great effort by Connor and Theo in the midfield and special mention to Blair who took the field despite being crook through the night. Buster picked up another clean sheet to keep our goals against still in single figures. An overall fantastic team effort and some wonderful play showcasing our passing and positioning. Well done guys.
