Start of the holidays and the kids were all excited to play, we only had the Bare 11 today due to illness. Westminster started off the better team, even after the pre-game talk by the coach. Westminster scored an early goal after some bad defence by us and where on a high. After the restart both teams played hard for the control of the ball. After a few minutes the halve put through a good ball and the forwards, with some good passing found the back of the net 1 all. After we scored our first goal Westminster struggled to control the ball for the rest of the half we dominated the ball finishing off the half at 4-1. Second half Westminster come out fighting again but couldn’t find the net. Blackstone worked hard and with some good passing up the field we found the goal again. Midway through the second half Westminster had a couple of injuries, and we capitalised on the breaks in play. The forwards had some good ball fed up from the back half and scored a couple more making it 7-1. Westminster had a momentary flash of brilliance and charged up the field but where kept out by some good defence. After that we dominated the rest of the game running out 9-1 winners could have been higher but for a couple of off sides. All in all a good performance by all. Till next week
Nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon watching Blackstone’s champion women’s team take on Logan Uniting at home.
A very convincing 10-1 win.
We travelled over to Murrumba Downs to take on North Pine. We had four goals put past us last game and we keen to improve. North Pine also have a number of North Zone representatives so all teams in Division 1 are tough to play against. We didn’t start well with a poor kick off and at the 2’mark, failed to shut down their forwards as they approached our 18 yard box. With time and space, their player shot high and wide giving Buster no chance to make the save and go into the lead very early 1 nil. We then regained our shape and our first opportunity came with Scotty have a shot on goal at the 15’mark. North Pine countered and again made a raid down our left hand side. With a cross into the box, we weren’t able to intercept the cross and North Pine slotted home their second goal. For the balance of the first half, Blackstone muscled up determined not let in another goal. At times we were outnumbered by the attacking team but denied them opportunities to finish. North Pine went to the half time break 2 nil up.
In the second half, Blackstone came out firing. We started to gain momentum and with North Pine pressing high, space opened up in the middle of the park for the counter attack. We had three very good opportunities in the second half for Jonas, Jeremiah and Dan for shots on goal but we were not able to get them away. North Pine made ground and with through balls, our defence had their work cut out. Buster is developing a good read of this type of play and comes out early to intercept the ball outside his 18 yard box to clear the ball from danger. Blackstone keep the second half nil all and after conceding the early goals. Great effort again from all the team on a warm winter’s day and improvement on our first game against North Pine. With St Cats winning against Whitehill, we slip to fifth spot on goal difference (equal fourth on points).
Full time result North Pine 2 defeated Blackstone 0.
We were very keen to test ourselves against North Lakes as there was not much difference between the teams in the first game. With the game starting, both teams had opportunities on goal in the first five minutes. The North Lakes shot was saved by Buster and Jeremiah had his shot at the other end saved by their keeper. Both teams were evenly pitched through the first half with no clear cut chances until late in the half. With Blackstone playing the ball out from the back, Blair received the ball midway in our half and went for a run. He carved through the midfield (JC dropping back to cover his position) until he was midway in their half. He was in two minds: do I shoot for goal or pass? He took the latter option a touch late and unfortunately Jonas had moved into an offside position. It was a wonderful run and a great pass and deserved a better finish. Not long after, JC picked the ball up just over our halfway line and slid a cracking pass through their backline for Jonas to run onto. Jonas took a touch and calmly slotted the ball across the face of the keeper just inside the far post. Blackstone were in the lead 1 nil and went to the half time break.
In the second half, North Lakes up the ante. At the 47’mark, they crossed the ball into the box after making a run down our left side. Cody intercepted the pass but unfortunately the ball slid off his shin and into our goal for an own goal. It was back on even terms with 13 minutes left to play. Blackstone kept pushing but North Lakes had too much pace. They managed to score again at the 50’mark and finally at 54’mark despite Buster charging out to cut down the angle. Blackstone had fought hard but their pace was too much in the end. The score line didn’t reflect the closeness of the game and very proud of the effort from the whole team.

We headed off to Stallard Park to take on Whitehill. We didn’t know what to expect as we haven’t played each other as yet (washed out round). We were on a high after the win the previous week and took to the field full of confidence. Whitehill have a few West Zone players as part of their team so we knew they were a quality side. From the kick off, we were on the back foot. At the 5’mark, Whitehill attacked our left side and headed towards goal. With a powerful shot, Buster initially made the save but fumbled the ball and it found the back of the net. Whitehill into the lead 1 nil. The game ebbed and flowed with neither side gaining the upper hand. Just before half time, we allowed Whitehill too much time at our 18 yard box and they got a shot away. Again Buster made the save but fumbled the take and it trickled across the line before he could control the ball. Whitehill went into half time 2 nil in the lead and looking for their first win of the season.
With plenty of encouragement, Blackstone took to the field for the second half. We didn’t have to wait too long as after an attack into their 18 yard box at the 32’mark, the ball was passed across our front line and found Dan. Dan slotted the ball home through the defence and past the keeper. We were back in the game but still down 2-1. At the 42’mark, we were making lots of metres down our left wing and with Theo charging towards the 18 yard box again, the ref awarded a penalty for a defensive player fouling Theo when contesting the ball. Dan was given the licence to take the shot and go for goal. The ball landed on the six yard box and in the scramble for the ball, Jack smashed it into the back of the net. Gooaallll! First goal for Jack this season and well deserved. For the remaining 18 minutes, the ball went from end to end and both sides had opportunities to win the match. Finally, the ref blew fulltime and both teams shared the points.
Full time result Whitehill 2 drew Blackstone 2.
We welcomed Logan Uniting to Blackstone as we moved into the second cycle of matches for the season. We were confident after a draw against St Cats although mindful of our first game of the season which Logan had a very good victory. The game kicked off and soon Logan were pressing our goal and at the 2’mark, slotted home the first goal of the game when we allowed the attacking team space at the top of the 18 yard box. With a cracking shot, high and wide, Buster had no chance to make the save. Logan in to the lead 1 nil. The team didn’t drop their heads and pressed on from the kick off. It was evident that this was going to be a hard fought, tight match. Jeremiah had our first shot after getting in behind their backline but his shot went wide of the far post. At the 12’mark, Jonas ran onto a through ball in behind the defence and one on one with the keeper, slotted it home. We were back even at 1 all. Very quickly we had the run of play and Ben passed a fantastic ball through to Theo for a shot on goal, which was saved by the keeper. Theo trailed through after the shot and when the save rebounded away from the keeper, Theo finished into the back of the net. Blackstone were in the lead, 2-1. Logan managed to make a run down our left side and with a heavy touch, the player pushed the ball out in front. Buster was already moving forward to cut down the angle and when he saw the heavy touch, quick as a flash he ran out and made a diving save at the attacking players feet taking a heavy hit for his trouble. Logan didn’t give up and pressed into their attacking third. With a run deep into the box, Blair kept the Logan player away from goal but in contesting for the ball, the ref awarded a foul and pointed to the spot. Both coaches looked at each other and agreed no foul however, it’s the refs call. Logan slotted the penalty into the net and were back on even terms 2 all. Blackstone counted and with Theo’s passing game on song, set up a fast finishing Ben but the shot was saved by the Logan keeper. Just before half time, with Blackstone failing to clear a corner Logan finished a scrappy goal to go to the break 3-2 up.
In the second half it was clear that Blackstone were not going to give up. They wanted the win more than ever and continued to battle away. In a move down our right hand side, Dan took possession of the ball and beating players twice his size, put a lovely ball through to Ben who didn’t miss the opportunity this time and slotted home the goal. We were back in it at 3 all. It was end to end play and Logan countered again with Buster making a cracking save well above his head deflecting the ball up into the cross bar and then grabbing it as it came down. He took a head knock (didn’t say anything at the time) and continued to play on. As we moved the ball up through the field it was time for the Gorrie brothers to take control. Lachie had possession and saw Jeremiah free. A beautiful pass later and Jeremiah had a goal. We were in the lead 4-3. The game continued to see saw for the rest of the match but Blackstone were not going to let this one slip. With the final whistle blown, we had one our first game in Division 1 against the team that had beaten us 9-2 in the first round. Very proud of this team and their willingness to keep pushing. All of the team were exhausted but very, very happy. This moved us off the bottom of the ladder and into outright fourth spot.

We took to the field on Friday night to take on Whitehill at our home field. Sitting in fourth spot due to goal difference (equal second on points) and coming off three wins and a draw from our last four games, we wanted a strong performance against Whitehill. It didn’t take very long to open the scoring with Lennie in space outside the 18 yard box and seeing the keeper off his line, took a shot high and long. All the keeper could do was turn and watch it go into the back of the net. Blackstone into the lead 1 nil. We had many opportunities in the first half but could not find the goal. With Whitehill making an attacking run into our 18 yard box, the referee awarded a penalty from the spot after seeing a holding infringement from a Blackstone player. Very frustrating as the Whitehill player had held the Blackstone player back to gain an advantage first but this was not seen by the ref. The Katt stood on the line and as the Whitehill striker took the penalty dove to the right and parried the ball wide of the goal. Cracking save and Blackstone managed to clear the ball from the following corner. We went to the break 1 nil up (seems to be a pattern here).
With a resolve to pick up a few goals in the second half, we had the lion’s share of possession and field position but could not finish. With Whitehill players getting the first touch off corners or blocking shots we were unable to extend our lead. Finishing strongly again, we manufactured two clear cut opportunities. The first was with a lovely movement up our right hand side resulting in a cross across goal along the deck. With only a touch required into an open goal, Shorty managed to get the touch but put it wide of the post. The groan of frustration from Shorty could be heard from the other end of the field. The second was from a movement up our left and with a probing run from Lennie, beating two Whitehill players cut the ball back to an unmarked Tim at the 18 yard line. Tim’s strike went just wide of the far post with the keeper at the other post to defend the run from Lennie. Thanks again to John Ridley for joining us again, really appreciate your efforts. With this win, we have moved to the top of the table.

We travelled down to Brittain Park for our clash against the Scorpions. We knew from our first game of the season they had a few dangerous players that we needed to shut down. We were short of numbers and thanks again to the trio of John Ridley, Jonathon Lopez and Glen Rugendyke for filling the breach. We started strongly in the first half and with a lovely move down our right, Glen made a penetrating run towards goal, with a strike off his right, he beat the keeper on his near post. Blackstone into the lead 1 nil. With a number of corners, we could not get a touch on the ball to beat the keeper. We went to the break 1 nil up.
Scorpions were able to peg one goal back off a corner ball. The ball came into the near post and despite our keeper trying to punch the ball clear, the ball glanced off the front post and into a Scorpion player. This then deflected straight into Shorty who slotted the ball into the back of the net for an own goal. To his defence, Shorty didn’t know too much about the ball and having no time to react. Finishing the second half strongly, we picked up another two goals (Tim Watts and Tony Dileo) and were unlucky not to collect a few more with offside calls denying the finish.

We welcomed Sunnybank Saints to our field this week for the final game of the first cycle of games for the season. We were confident going into the match and with Sunnybank starting with nine men, it was a perfect opportunity for a win. Not too far into the game we were able to capitalise with our numbers advantage and score our first goal. With a tenth player taking the field for Sunnybank, we needed to continue to push our advantage. We started to get frustrated as opportunities created were not converted into goals. We went to the break 1 nil up. At half time we reminded ourselves to move the ball, keep it at our feet and enjoy the game.
With renewed positivity, we took to the field for the second half. It didn’t take to gain the upper hand and we continued to press the Sunnybank defence. With Sunnybank relying heavily on the long ball, we were able to defuse every advance. Our keeper denied Sunnybank a late consolation goal with a diving save to his right to get enough of a touch to send it just wide of the post. We picked up four goals in the second half to finish 5 nil. With 2 goals to Tony Dileo and one each to Derek Sweeney, Lennie Manwaring and Jonathon Lopez (thanks for filling in Johno), we helped our goal difference and picked up our first clean sheet for the season.

This week, we ventured to Kath Chandler Field for the highly anticipated local derby against our cross town rivals Raceview United. There is always a little extra feeling in every tackle and challenge and this match was no different. Both teams fought hard for possession and field position and Blackstone had the best of the early opportunities. Early in the first hard, Blackstone pressed the Raceview defensive line hard. With Tony continuing to put pressure on the keeper, the keeper looked to clear the ball but drilled the ball into one of his own players which rebounded straight back toward the Raceview goal. Tony followed after to make sure it went into the back of the net. Blackstone went to the lead 1 nil. Raceview had opportunities in the first half but didn’t put significant pressure on our goal with either the backline or keeper intercepting every play. With a few ladies from the Senior Womens Div 1 team cheering on their coach (Andy) it was great to have the support away from home. Blackstone went to the break 1 nil.
In the second half, Raceview came out strong and pressured the Blackstone goal. We had our opportunities with a number of corners but could not convert. A lovely couple of runs by Johnny Hawkins to their back post either from open play or corners were not rewarded as John could not get foot to ball as a touch would have resulted in a goal. As the second half progressed, Raceview started to look more likely to score and with movement down our left side ended up with a shot on goal. The strike was inside out and a diving save from our keeper could not stop the shot. Score was back to 1 all. Shortly after, Raceview had a perfect opportunity to take the lead with their striker getting behind our defence and one on one with our keeper. With the keeper advancing to cut down the angle, the Raceview shot low and hard to his left. The Katt dropped like a stone and with a outstretched arm, made the save and denied Raceview the lead. Our defence rallied and cleared the ball from danger. Late in the game, Raceview were reduced to 10 men following a red card and the match finished with a draw. Big thankyou to John Ridley for filling in and providing plenty of support in the midfield.

So come on down and show your support for the Mighty Dragons!
U9s Dragons versed the undefeated Raceview team today.
The Dragons had most of the possession in the first half, passing and defending, with some beautiful runs down the centre of the field by K Tatchell creating a few one on one goal scoring opportunities. Unfortunately with two saves from the Raceview keeper! Also a special mention to Jack V who held his position well with some fierce defending.
The first goal of the day went to Blackstone Dragons with a beautiful cross in from Sam H off a corner. Kai D then sank it with a one touch volley into the back of the net!
Half time Blackstone were leading 1-0.
With some brilliant play by the Dragons and some stumbling around in the Raceview box, K Tatchell scored an excellent second goal in the corner of the net.
Blackstone lost a bit of possession in the second half and Raceview got a goal back. The score line now at 2-1 to Blackstone.
The last 10 minutes Raceview put a lot of pressure on the Dragons in their box. Thankfully the Dragons held them out with a little bit of trouble trying to clear it out. Finally, the ball was passed out and Elijah D went for a brilliant run down the left hand side of the field. With plenty of defenders on him, he got through the pack.
Stand out players today go to Jack Voight, Kai D, Jayden T Elijah D, Zac W, Sam H, Corey S, Ella B, Abigail S, Kaileb T, James L, Jack H and Cohan R.
The team should be commended for a brilliant game of football
Back after the long weekend break and we were keen to play until the game started and they all went into a bit of a trance. We got an early goal and then Silkstone hit back and were more eager for the ball and controlled the game for the rest of the first half. We had a couple of runs up the field but couldn’t convert. Second half we came out ready to play and had several shots at goal and finial got a second. Silkstone hit back soon after and for most of the second half it was a fight from one end of the field to the other. With about ten minutes to go we pushed up the field and had a long range shot which the goalie blocked but lost control of the ball due to some excellent pressure from the forward resulting in the winning goal. After our slow start all the boys and girls show a lot of heart to come through on top. Big on next week
The QCSA State Titles were held last weekend and Blackstone had a number of players selected in West Zone teams:

The state titles BBQ was held over the long weekend. A big thankyou to all of those players and parents who gave up a lot of time on their long weekend to help cook and serve burgers at the state titles. I am pleased to announce that we raised $5,230.55 from the weekend!!
An extra special thanks has to go to our facilitators Rohan and Linda Alexander, especially Rohan who organised and ordered all the food and toiled hard all weekend. Your hard work and dedication to the club is appreciated and does not go unnoticed. With the money raised from both the Bunnings and State Titles BBQs and the donation from our sponsors Shephard Transport Equipment we are in a position to purchase four (4) new grandstands (6m x 3 tiered). The order has been placed today (12 June) and we are hopeful of having them delivered within the next three weeks.
Again, a big thankyou to all of those people who helped out over the weekend. We could not have got the result we did without you!

Blackstone under 9 West Welsh played Silkstone at Blackstone 1 at 8am.
The coach this week decided to change formation of the team, so that we had more attaching team. Blackstone start off with a bang, with a quick goal by Ojino R in under a minute of the game gone. Blackstone 1 Silkstone nil. The defence was very good with Dominic R, Michael B, Tahlia P, Harry K and Beau P. The Midfields Hayley W, Hayden S Beau P, Jack S Dominic R Harry K ran and ran all game. Our Forward were able to slot 2 goals (Ojino with 2 goals) in the first half and 3 goals (Jack S with 2 goals and Ojino R with another 1 goal) in the second half.
The goalie for this game was Mark W. He kept very well. This was his first game back from surgery.
This Under 9’s Welsh team has come a long was so far on the big field and here was some examples of this in this week’s game. Harry got knocked down but got up again and was very ball hungry. Hayden did lots of passes to his team mates. The team is starting to know what the off side rule is, learning and understanding positions on the field and the roles they make to make up a team.
The team was unlucky to have 2 sick players this week Sam P and Adam W. Thank you to Rhys B for filling in from under 7’s at very late notice.
Another home game this week and the kids where all eager after their big win last week. We started well and pushed the ball up into their Goal square and had a couple of shots, that where kept out by Raceview. After another raid into their end Raceview helped the ball into the goal giving us our first goal. Raceview came back at us with some good ball work and hand some good shots at goal but some good work by the fullbacks and outstanding goalkeeping by cooper saw them remain scoreless. For a while our passing dropped off allowing Raceview back into the game, but we soon got back into the groove and slotted another goal. Second half saw us continue the game the same way and late in the half we got a penalty to make the score 3-nil. All the other players had a good game with some good team work, but with some passing practice next week and we should be flying again.
The last time we versed the Warriors we won 4-2, although have had an unlucky streak of losses against the rest of the U9 teams in the competition.
Our Dragons were on fire today with a beautiful layout of positions, they showed up to win today!
In the first half there were 3 goals scored 2 to the Dragons and 1 for the Warriors. Heading into the second half Blackstone were up 2-1. The final goal of the day was scored by a brilliant play of passes from the back line with Brooke K running it down the right side of the field and feeding ‘the pass of the day’ to Jack H who took a break away run down the centre of the field and scored a one on one with the keeper with a quick defender hot on his heels.
Brilliant game today Blackstone with some stand out players Zac W, Cohan R, Brooke K and Jack H.
As always, thank you to all the parents and supporters, the team appreciate it!!
