U9 Dragons got a WIN and we’re gonna SHOUT IT!
Alright. Alright. Alright.
It wasn’t the prettiest of matches but it wasn’t the ugliest of matches either.
It was a gutsy team effort by all players who rolled up their metaphorical sleeves and exclaimed –
“Today, we get the job done”.
Fast ball movement, great goalkeeping and tenacious defence set up the win on Saturday at Boonah.
Jayden H made some super saves and looked safe in goals for the first half – good job, because those goals are huge! Jakob opened the scoring with a break away run and shot on goal at the 7 minute mark of the first half.
I think Tim Cahill was his patron saint on Saturday because it was a silky smooth play. The Blackstone supporters were emphatic but kept their emotions in check – just in case.
They needn’t have worried because after Coach T made a 10 minute mark replacement, super sub Lucas (now in jersey #7 because it fits him better) broke free and slotted a neat goal. There was still 28 minutes of the match left so no one in the crowd wanted to jinx the team with over confident support. However, all-out cheering was back in vogue when again jersey #7 trickled the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 3-0 before the half time break!
AHHHHHHHHHHH. It felt good to be in front & smiles were abundant.
We had a big lead but still needed to work hard. And work hard we did. The second half was a tight affair going from end to end. The Boonah players were surging left, right and up the middle, but the Dragon Defence stood strong. Harrison was the lead defender today and he did a wonderful job controlling the ball when the Yellow Shirts threatened our 18 yard box.
I’m fairly certain I heard him yell “YOU SHALL NOT PASS!” in a grey wizard-type voice at one point. He gave everyone heart palpitations a couple of times when he turned the ball on the inside of the field when in our half, but he knew what he was doing! Harrison was awarded the Coach’s Choice award today – he was always involved, ran a mile each half and played strong.
At full time, arms were raised aloft and we had broken our hoodoo. We are now 1W and 4L and looking to threaten the next team above us on the ladder. All the team did well today and Captain James – who had a tidy game creating some chances – gave a great speech after the game.
Okay lads, let’s remember this feeling and have a good training on Thursday and get ready for next Saturday when we play Whitehill at home.
Let’s avenge our first round defeat.
Red Dragons Rule!
